In this project an assembly method is developed to attach a glass fiber to a photonic Integrated circuit (PIC) on fused silica glass.

The assembly method uses a laser welding process and strain relief method that can attach a polarization maintaining fiber that transports visible light to a PIC with waveguides of silicon nitride on a fused silica glass substrate. Furthermore the method is developed to work in an industrial assembly machine capable of scaling to larger volumes.
