As a member of our Systems Architecture team, you will support the translation of system and application requirements into cutting-edge integrated photonic devices and novel system concepts. Our systems address a broad range of applications, including 6G, Satcom, Radar, LiDAR, and defense-related technologies.

In this role, you will support system engineers and the project team by helping to maintain a radio system-level overview, assisting in the coordination of technical activities, and contributing to internal technical alignment. You will work closely with colleagues across Project Management, Chip Design, Cleanroom, Electronics & Software, and Assembly & Packaging teams to support the development and integration of the required systems.

You will also contribute to the experimental characterization and validation of devices and systems together with colleagues from the Systems Architecture team.

This position is well-suited for an engineer aiming to gain hands-on experience in system-level thinking, interdisciplinary collaboration, and advanced microwave photonic technologies within a supportive team environment.

Your responsibilities are:

  • Translate customer technical requirements into integrated photonic devices and the overall system architecture.
  • Coordinate activities with involved internal teams.
  • Experimental evaluation of the integrated photonic devices and RF systems.
  • Technical reporting and internal communication to the customer and project partners.

Your team:

You will be part of the Systems Architecture team of LioniX International. This team works on the research and development of integrated photonic devices and systems for optical communication and microwave photonic signal processing. The team closely collaborates with customers and project partners on novel integrated photonic devices and systems with world-class performance, utilizing the innovative LioniX International photonic IC and photonic integration/assembly technologies. Together with customers and project partners, the team develops new system/device concepts using custom Python and VPI system calculation tools. To achieve world-class performance in these concepts, novel PIC technologies with improved performance are defined and developed in close collaboration with the design, fabrication, electronics, and assembly teams of LioniX International. The Systems Architecture team works towards the realization of integrated photonics demonstrators for communication markets via collaborations with industry and by defining and executing R&D projects with university and industry partners along the LioniX International roadmap. The team members work closely together on all relevant topics and support each other where necessary. The team’s successes are realized by working accurately with passion and creativity in a positive team environment.

What we are looking for:

  • M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering or a comparable field of study.
  • Experience with RF communication systems.
  • An engineering mindset focused on developing innovative integrated systems.
  • Skills involving high-end electrical or photonic communication system test equipment.
  • Experience with tools for communication or photonic systems design, such as VPIphotonics, Ansys HFSS, MATLAB.
  • Experience with programming languages ​​such as Python.
  • Good technical communication skills.
  • Team player mindset with a problem-solving mentality and a drive to take initiative and responsibility.

Languages

  • Dutch-speaking or willing to learn to speak Dutch.
  • Good English verbal and written communication skills.
